In the ancient passover tradition of klaplach I started cooking the bacon last night, mixing the sugar and the almonds. Family will be over in a little while for their new plaid Easter outfits. When I was a child my mother would hide our easter baskets around the house after we left them empty the night before on the kitchen table. The theory was a large human-sized magic rabbit would break in, fill the baskets with goodies (somehow, there was no bag or sack) then hide them in different places in the house. They would have to be hidden from view, as if an expert lock-picking lagomorph filling baskets was not going far enough. It was a fun tradition as a kid. Childhood seemed so short. Raising our children has also been brief. Karly, the oldest grandchild is already 7. I enjoy life too much to have it all going by so fast. So this morning before the grandkids come over we took their Easter bags full of goodies and placed them in the backyard for them to go and find.
